SOFTWARE AND ONLINE DEVELOPMENT

Advisory Matters software development team produces high quality eLearning resources for commercial clients and, under its own branding, for sale direct to schools. Specialising in database driven applications, it has a long track record of providing interesting and varied solutions to meet learners’ needs.

Some examples of projects are listed below:

ConstructionSkills Construction Award Scheme

ConstructionSkills provides assistance in all aspects of recruiting, training and qualifying the construction workforce. As part of its former work in schools it provides an award scheme open to pupils at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. Advisory Matters was tasked to turn the scheme into an eLearning resource from its original paper-base. This involved building a database driven CD ROM and web site for use schools in which the paper materials and new interactive activities reside. The project over three years will see the development of new learning activities. A review of ConstructionSkills remit in 2007 meant it was no longer able to support this phase, and consequently the site was withdrawn at that time.

2Handwrite

2Handwrite is an original idea from Advisory Matters and taken on by 2Simple Software. Designed to be used to teach handwriting to young children on an interactive whiteboard, it is an excellent example of how ICT can be used to enhance teaching using this relatively new technology.

TeachingPoints

TeachingPoints is a series of collaborative ventures with a number of not-for-profit organisations and commercial providers with unique content. TeachingPoints packs are available from Advisory Matters directly or through resellers.

The Teaching Points web site is here.

MathsnetGCSE

MathsNet.com is the commercial arm of MathsNet.net, one of the most popular Mathematics web sites on the internet run by an enthusiastic Maths teacher. In a joint venture, Advisory Matters has established MathsNetGCSE.com a subscription based web site that concentrates on raising intermediate students’ GCSE grades. Advisory Matters has provided a sophisticated online login system to the service. This provides different levels of access to subscribers at different times of the day. School accounts enable many users to log on during the school day, while individual accounts only allow one user access and only operate in the evenings, the latter providing access to students and teachers at home. MathsNetGCSE can be found at www.mathsnetgcse.com.

British Council

Working with the British Council in Bulgaria, Advisory Matters worked with a dozen headteachers to provide a Self Review Framework and online tool for use in their schools. The Framework took the Becta Self Review Framework as its model, and is now being used in schools throughout the country to self-assess their ICT.
